FAMILY THERAPY FOR ADOLESCENTS

Why Family Therapy??

Family Therapy has been show to be the most effective treatment for adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa. Here at the UCSD Eating DIsorder Program, we use family therapy as the therapy of choice for Adolescents. We currently offer several programs that all involve family therapy. We are currently conducting a clinical trial that is comparing two different types of family therapy for adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa.

No Cost Family Therapy for Adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa

Families with adolescents who are currently suffering from Anorexia Nervosa are needed to participate in an international study coordinated out of Stanford University.  Six treatment sites from all over the United States and Canada will be providing no cost family therapy for nine months and medical management for over a year to families who need treatment.  Within the next two years, each site will be recruiting approximately 30 families and therefore 160 families will have the opportunity to be randomized to receive one of the two state of the art family therapy treatments!  This study is currently the largest study in history to examine family therapy in adolescents with anorexia nervosa.  This is a great opportunity for those who cannot currently afford treatment! We are looking for adolescents between the ages of 12-18 who currently meet the DSM-IV-TR criteria for anorexia nervosa.  If you are interested about participating in this study, please contact one of our six treatment sites!
