Training Program

We have a thriving Training Program teaching researchers and clinicians at all stages of their schooling.

Our Training Program consists of clinical and research postdoctoral opportunities, APA internships through the UCSD/VA program, and practicum placements for graduate students and dietary students from universities where we have contracts in place. We regularly have opportunities for unlicensed therapists to work in full-time, paid positions while earning their hours for licensure. Please see the UC San Diego job board for our current opportunities.

Successful trainees have a strong interest in evidence-based training. Previous experience treating eating disorders is not required. We find applicants with strong experience in related fields (e.g., anxiety, substances, trauma, personality disorders) to be valuable. Training programs are tailored to students' needs and include 6-8 hours per week of supervision and didactics.

Our training program offers expert didactics and supervision:

  • Across our Programs: Inpatient, day treatment and intensive outpatient

  • Across the Lifespan: We work with patients as young as 7 in our Pediatric Clinic, teens in our Adolescent Clinic, and individuals ages 18 - 65 in our Adult Clinic.

  • Treating a Range of Diagnoses: Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, Substance Abuse, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and more.

  • In several Evidence-Based Treatments: Family Based Treatment, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and much more
